Audience poll. Twitter users? Attitudes towards?

Why Twitter?

All about connection.

Confession: My electricity fast (sometimes I want a break from all media, but when I am online, Twitter is an important part of it).

Twitter is a tool. If you’re online, you should be on Twitter. Make it easy for people to find and subscribe to you however they want: email/RSS/Facebook/Twitter.

Twitter Testimonial

Strengthens relationships: (another way to keep in touch w/ Tom; also can dm his boss)

Online-to-IRL friends: (Stephanie, Charlotte)

Speaking/Sponsorship Opportunities: (StartupPrincessBYU talk; CarissaMemory Mixer; Out-n-Back responding to my Camping in Utah? query)

Twitter Challenges

(these apply to blogs too)

Balancing what you like to talk about v. what you like to read about — Many people (me) like to talk about their kids. Do you like to read about everyone else’s kids? Match your twitter voice to your blog voice. (Think carefully about both).

Knowing what to tweet — gauge audience interest, practice brevity, how successful are you at conveying intent? (My response to Carina yesterday; choose humor, choose to assume the best.)

Getting companies to notice you: follow them, converse with them, include Twitter PR in any pitch you do. (And v.v. if you’re a company, which if you write a blog, you are.)

Feeling left out — What if everyone else is getting all the opportunities and making all the friends?

Feeling rejected — What if someone blocks you? Jenny’s post.
