I’ve had several months to regret buzzing Spot’s hair. It made sense at the time, and she didn’t care. Not caring was probably why she cut her bangs off at the scalp in the first place. Several months is nothing, of course; I have spent years regretting the times I have cut my own hair.
Then today Spot was inconsolably (also unintelligibly) distraught during the get-dressed-and-pee routine. Spot is the only person I know who can wait hours before peeing in the morning; I try to remind her after breakfast anyway, because urinary output is just one of the homeland security concerns a mother monitors.
I finally deciphered her complaint as “my hair is sticking up.” I didn’t tell her that sticking up is nothing compared to the perm she’ll beg for in seventh grade.

that’s funny stuff. just the other day i laughed out loud at my 14-year-old daughter because she and her friends spend even more time, money and effort to make their hair straight as me and my friends did to make our hair curly when we were their age.
Did you snap that shot with your new awesome camera? It looks great!
I guess it is times like this I am grateful for boys. If they ever cut their hair buzzing is a perfect option.
I think she looks adorable. And great stories for the future.
poor, poor Spot. Sweet little thing. This is so sad. Tell her that if Victoria Beckham and Kate Gosselin can get away with it than so can she.
So cute! Such gorgeous hair colour – our only vauge disappointment with Matilda when she was born that she didn’t have red hair – we hoped John’s red-haired sister and the bits of red and auburn in my family would come together in a wham of genes with our first born. Maybe the light is just picking up Spot’s hair beautifully. Love it.
M hasn’t yet done this, but I have to BEG her to let me put her hair in pony/piggy tails at all. And she only had her first hair cut three weeks ago.
I wonder if Spot’s sticking up hair is as upsetting as when Matilda can’t wear a dress.every.single.day. (Didn’t anticipate a big girliness attack when I’ve been buying summer clothes for this season and getting hand-me-downs from her god-brothers).
I love her red hair. When you mentioned the perm I immediately thought of an awesome picture of Melinda where she has this huge perm. You should totally post one of yourself from that age (assuming that you had a perm).
Aww. So what was the solution?
Wow! That picture is awesome!! Did you get that awesome camera you wanted?
P.S. She is adorable, spiky hair and all.
Shall I send her some Hannah Montana Halloween wigs? Because then she can see how the OTHER half lives. (The other half being 1200% of the girls in El Paso.)
My 3 year old has been begging for that hair-do every day. The faux-hawk.
I think it is cute that she noticed and was bothered by it. My girls leave the house with the most terrible hairdos if I don’t watch them closely.
Ok…that’s cute stuff right there! This is just the beginning of her hair dos and don’ts. But you’re pretty clear on that…
