Is now Seagull Fountain. I’ll probably expound on that later, but just wanted to give you a heads up if you’re wondering why you suddenly see something called “Seagull Fountain” in your reader. I’m working on a new banner, which is to say that Dick is working on something and also I’m counting my pennies to see if I can induce Alma to do me up something like Petit Elefant‘s header for the low, low price of ALL MY LOVE.
Thanks for reading!

I’m curious about the name change. why seagull fountain? it sounds like a subdivision somewhere in Utah county. i must say that what about mom, was a lot more catchy and descriptive. so please explain the meaning, if there is one…

I’m glad you thought “What About Mom?” was catchy, and yes, it certainly was descriptive. A little too descriptive. To be honest, I disliked What About Mom more than I liked Seagull Fountain, but I had a hard time thinking up a different domain name that was actually available (all the good ones seem to be taken).
Also, Seagull Fountain IS supposed to sound like a place name in Utah, though I was aiming more for a rural town like Lake Woebegone or a named-house-type thing like Green Gables rather than a “subdivision.” It is not the name of any real town, village, or subdivision in Utah or anywhere else that I’m aware of, so I’m also hoping for a metaphoric shading of it. (And it’s a play on the name of the town we do live in, which is rural rather than suburban).
I liked some aspects of “What About Mom?” but not that I didn’t own the actual whataboutmom.com domain (that wasn’t for sale, mine was “whataboutmomblog.com”), and I grew to hate having to tell people that mine was yet another blog with the name “mom” in it. Did you know someone has a blog/twitter handle of “Relevant Mom”? I ask you. WHAT is that? (Not that there’s anything wrong with having “mom” in your title, I was just really, really tired of it, and of defensively saying “It’s a play on the Bill Murray movie, you know?”
And, unfortunately, GroundhogDay.com was taken, which was the other title I really, really liked.
(Plus Dick assures me I could always change it back if I want. We’ll keep the whataboutmomblog.com domain for now.)
I wondered! I saw Seagull Fountain on the browser tab before you changed the header, I think. I’m not sure how I feel about Seagull Fountain. It doesn’t sound like a village or town to me. And *choke*– get it right: Lake Wobegon.
Only my favourite fictional place ever and you spelled it wrong! Ah, I still like you.
I didn’t like the name What About Mom? It sounded whiny. I can say that now, right?
Boy, you’re going to have a lot of work to do with changing links!!
Looking forward to the new header!

I should’ve looked up the Lake Wobegon thing — you (I) only ever hear it, so I didn’t really know.
Anyway, yes, the whiny thing was part of not liking it (that was why I was always explaining the What About Bob? reference).
It’s funny. I love when people come up to me and say “Are you What About Mom?” but I hate having to introduce myself as “What About Mom?” I think I enjoy the first because it just means someone recognizes me at all, not because of the WAM name.
That and my reply to Sylwia kind of made it sound like I’m too concerned what other people think, but I think that’s just because when I’m writing or what-have-you, I’m not thinking of the title; it’s only when I’m introduced or in public (on or off-line) that I have to think/say the title.
And What About Mom? — It’s actually a little hard for me to give it up, almost like killing off someone, I feel nostalgic, etc, but I hated that it was so narrowly restrictive in focus and also, ironically, too broad, as if I were trying to talk about all moms, which I’m not.
So anyway. At least now I probably don’t have to write a coherent post about the name change, since I’ve rambled here long enough!
Oh, and on the links, the whataboutmomblog.com links should still work, that domain just points to this one. I am not up on the techie side, and I prefer to keep it that way.

I didn’t mean so much the LINK as the name attached to the link. Like at MormonMommyBlogs and stuff. Maybe you’re not listed on too many, I don’t know but I’d want to change the link to my new name if I were you.

Dude. Do not be pointing out these important things to me. ARGH. That will be a pain.
I was all “WTF?” and then I saw the explanation. And THEN I wondered at the name choice until I saw the picture and I snorted. Leave it to Jane to be GROSS!!

Ok, it’s not really supposed to be a fountain of poop. But.
I’m trying to finagle a professional banner — in the meantime, Dick was kind enough to mock this one up for me.
ok I love the new name…i think its catchy and cute and I like the pic
steff

I LOVE YOU, Steff!
I feel like the world has fallen out from under me! Okay, not really. I like it. But now you’re making me doubt my “Mom”nerd choice. AAAAAAAAH!

I definitely don’t mean to make anyone doubt their own choices (well, except maybe “relevant” mom — because really. What does that mean?) though I realize that our own choices and opinions do influence others — Sylwia’s comment made me second-guess myself.
But I like The Mom Nerd. For one thing, it doesn’t suffer from being to broad — it’s descriptive of you personally (I think of nerd as very much a compliment), and I think it goes well with your header and “branding” (whatever that means).
By the way, thanks for putting my new button up! You rock the house!
Yeah..you didn’t make me doubt that much. Maybe someday it won’t fit me as well when “mom” and “nerd” no longer seem to define who I am. I have a really good feeling that someday I will be “Perfect Mom” don’t you think? (enter maniacal laughing)
And I agree 100% with the Relevant Mom thing. Seriously, come on.
Oh, and I’m glad you think nerd is a compliment. My feelings about that change depending on the day.
I can cope with the name change, but probably because I’ve never seen the What about Bob movie or whatever it was, and only understood there was a deeper subtext to your former blog title when I read through the archives.
Wanted to say hello
Thanks!
