This Thanksgiving we’ve been blessed with a visit from Dick’s dad. We haven’t seen any of Dick’s family since we moved from Florida last August, and we miss them all, almost as much as the beach and Habana Cafe.
Dick’s family was not the big Mormon family I’d always hoped to marry in to. They were better than what I had imagined, just as Dick turned out to be better than I expected. Probably I should be disappointed to have so little in-law angst as fodder for the blog.
Grampa is smart, interesting to talk to, a good guest, well-read, and totally incapable of surviving a Utah winter. We’ve adjusted our thermostat so that he feels better about getting out of bed in the mornings.
At restaurants, Grampa talks to the waitress and tells the hostess as we leave that Mallory sure was friendly and helpful today.
When a clerk finally finds the jarred mincemeat pie filling for us, Grampa thanks him effusively, and regrets not getting his name so he can praise him to the manager.
Grampa bought the girls a trampoline for their birthdays and Christmas. It came with all the safety features, and the girls are pretty excited.
Though they might have been satisfied with a large plastic bovine and some chocolate rice cakes.
Some of the things that I’m most grateful for are things or people that I never anticipated would so important to me. My father-in-law, and my relationship with him, unexpectedly make my life much richer in ways that I never imagined.

What an uplifting post. Your FIL sounds amazing–so does the big cow!
Where were these pictures taken?
It is always so nice to see family. When my Dad comes into town I always remember fun things about him and then I miss him even more when he leaves.
A few thoughts as I saw your pics today, I really think Dick looks like Bobby Flay in the top picture (though that isn’t saying too much because I totally thought Matthew McConaughey played Carlisle in Twilight). Second I am still amazed at the haircut YOU DID YOURSELF!!!
I agree, I can’t cut my own hair, though I attempt at cutting my spouseman’s and three little boys’ hair. Yours looks fresh and great.
I immediately guessed that you went to Thanksgiving Point, having been there in August during the $2 days (which, by the way, was NOT super quiet with kids already in school; it ended up being super, super busy w/ TONS of parents that had kids under 5 years old or homeschooled)
And lastly, your FIL. What a nice post. I too have great in-laws. I feel so lucky. I can really talk to my MIL & FIL, even if I have problems w/ my MIL I can bring them up and she will listen and try to be better. I can’t even always do that w/ my own mom (who I still love dearly!).
ps. Nice, sneaky way to throw in a “Thanksgiving” post in the form of a gratitude post about your FIL. I wanted to do a thanksgiving post on my blog, but thought, “How in the world could I not say what every single other mom says when they’re feeling mushy and grateful for their husband and kids?” But I did it anyway.

Your father-in-law sounds like a really great guy. Reading this makes me realize I need to stop saying snotty things about my father-in-law (whom Joseph LOVES) and be more positive about his personality quirks. My father-in-law really is a wonderful guy, as well. He’s part of what made my husband so great
Hey, everybody. Wangle a long visit with Dick and Jane. Stay at least a week. More gracious and understanding hosts you’ll won’t find. They even turn up the heat for you. Lots of children to play with and Jane’s a great cook. Lots of love here. Check it out.
What a great guy! I’d love a father-in-law like that!

Slightly off topic perhaps, but a plea for you to think about the ethics of purchasing cheap trampolines. Do try and think about, for example, the materials your product is made with, the conditions of the employees where they’re manufactured and the ethics of the retailer. And try to recycle your trampoline instead of throwing away. Thanks!!!!
Hi everybody,
I hope I am not breaking the forum rules by posting this here, but I simply want to share an excellent online tool , which I found: you can use it to grab any video from YouTube.com or extract the audio from a video. And what is even better is the fact that you do not have to register or download anything – simply paste the video link, press a button and in a few seconds you’ll have the video or the audio on your computer.
This is my 1st post on this excellent forum, so if this isn’t the proper section, please move it and I apologize. However, for the guys that are interested, here is the link: Youtube downloader
I hope you find it useful!
