Kimberly -- Yes, they're supposed to be. Nature's Miracle says that you might have to pull up the carpet and pad in order to get to all the stain (in case it's seeped all the way to the concrete. You're supposed to really saturate it and give it 2 weeks, and only then put the carpet/pad back down.

Good luck. I'm so glad to finally have laminate flooring in the dining room! -- Though carpet IS good for noise reduction, which, if you have kids like mine, is a really good thing.

Oh the fun you can have with a black light. Way cool. Might not want to take that to your next hotel room. I'm not sure you'd want to know.

Is this Odoban and Nature's miracle stuff also for cats? Our cat decided this year to start peeing in our dining room carpet (yes some idiot built this house with carpeting in the dining room). Every time we cleaned it up, we'd find she did it again. I have used vinegar. I've used hydrogen peroxide, I've steam cleaned it and used carpet shampoo that claims to take care of pet odors and stuff.

But I can still smell it faintly, even months after the cat stopped peeing there (because we laid newspaper around the edges of the dining room for months). Blegh. Cat urine is one of the most acrid smells possible.

The previous owners of our new house were also animal lovers - they had 2 dogs, 1 parrot and several rabbits or gerbils or something. We had to have the tile in one of the closets professionally cleaned which took out SOME of the odor, but not all. I'll have to use the Nature's Miracle stuff on the carpets, since they still have odor despite carpet cleaning. I'm not brave enough to use a black light on my carpets - I'm sure they would be scary. I really wish I could just replace them all! Oh well - thanks for the tips!

That's funny! I'd have never thought about the blacklight, either. But when I clicked over to read this, I already had it in mind to suggest Odoban. The stuff works great! I use that on the kids mattresses when they have accidents.

Whenever people move out of base-housing here, the inspectors use a black light on the carpeting. It TOTALLY makes sense to do that when buying a house. I would've never even thought about it. I'll file that away for a future time when we are getting ready to be homeowners. Hope you get that smell taken care of!
