Recession Haircut: Fighting the Frump Just Got Harder

08.01.08 | Daily Dick and Jane | 5 Comments

I’ve been cutting Dick’s hair for 10 years now, and I always cut the girls hair too. I look at hair as a work-in-progress: you can cut a little one day, cut some more the next. It’s always better to cut too little, of course, because more cutting is always just a snip away. For both Dick and the girls, it’s best to cut in front of the TV so they’re more likely to sit still.

After I shaved my head when I went to Europe at 19 (it was a spiritual being-born-again-type gesture), I’ve tried to let the experts (or, at least the semi-trained) do the cutting and the highlighting, though I admit I often slip and cut my own bangs. But now I’m trying to save money. So I grabbed the clippers and cut about 1 1/2 inches off. Then panicked and called for Dick to come straighten out the back.

He did a pretty good job, though I can see where a little more snipping would help. (Don’t know what to say about those dark roots — they are a little lighter after it’s completely dry).

Anyone have tips for teaching your husband some shaping or texturing techniques?

totally unrelated, but fun to read
