Pretty informative post, though I’m not so sure I agree with you about Snagit. I mean, layers are AWESOME; there’s a reason so many graphics programs have been updating in order to add them. You certainly don’t have to use them if you don’t want to, either, ya know.

What a great post, I still feel very new to the blogosphere even after 2 years, there’s so much to learn…thanks for the links and summary. I agree with “search bar” being a must have, I also really think every blog needs a homepage button, didn’t have one until 2 months ago myself and it’s really changed things for my readers and myself! I also really recommend having an email list option where you could identify where the readers are located/region and RSS subscribe button at the top is a must! I’m also a huge advocate of hosting your blog on your own site, I messed that up for the first 8 months and was on wordpress and then had to “move”, nightmare!! Finally we have our online magazine in a wordpress template, Revolution Theme which I love. It was only $89, but you’ll need someone to customize it for you unless you’re a programmer. Revolution Theme has loads of amazing templates.

Great ideas here — you’ve helped lots of bloggers with this post.

Transparency is the “it” word in the blogosphere right now, isn’t it? I know in the personal finance/frugal arena of blogging, there’s a certain expectation of transparency when chatting about how you manage/save/make/budget money.

I feel you on the angst; I started blogging just to write, then got caught up in the maybe-I-can-be-a-BlogStar craziness.

It’s just too crazy for me, and, I’m just little ole me, anyhow.

I so needed this! I wrote a post several weeks ago asking a ton of questions that you answered here.

Thanks for the tips. For me, I just wanted a place to write. But I realized quickly that knowing someone has a comment about what I’ve written, motivates me to be a better writer.

While I’ll never be a power blogger, I enjoyed this post. I’ve always wondered how ppl get to be so popular.

I’m a total Snagit person and love, love it. But I mostly just use it for work.

About the comments, I like to see the poster’s responses to everyone else’s comments as well, but I don’t always follow up on the thread. I guess it really just depends on how many comments you are trying to respond to.

I have three blogs on WordPress and two on blogger. I tend to reply to a comment within the comment on WordPress since it has a section within the admin area devoted to "my comments." I personally click "my comments" and view what I wrote on another blog and what was written following my comment. For my blogger blogs, I have to hunt for my comments, bookmark them or click the email notification for follow-ups on the comments. Too many emails for that to be a reasonable option for me. I use Blogger. I also use Photoshop, but I am a digi-scrapper too, so use it daily anyway.

Trying to get to grips with all the technical stuff, and getting there…slowly!
