We drove to Arizona yesterday for Spring Break. Woohoo! Break out the booze and the bikinis! Except we don’t do either of those things, and if we HAD done those things in the past, they probably wouldn’t mix so well with three freckle-prone kids. What’s in Arizona? Not much, but March is definitely the right time of year to visit.
And my bosom friend Tara lives there.
I’ve been hurting so bad for my sister. And I know if I’m hurting this bad, she is hurting even more double plus bad. So it was something of a relief to leave the state for a few days, especially since we left her in the supremely capable and incredibly empathetic care of my parents.
My parents used to be so unfair and unsympathetic! They’d say Write it in journal. Wait till you have kids of your own. Who we sincerely hope will torture you as much as you’re now torturing us. And they do! My kids talk too loud and leave crap all over the house and ignore me when they’re reading books.
Last night after the kids crashed, Tara and I talked like we haven’t instant message’d for hours and talked on the phone every stinkin’ day since they left us in Florida. At one point Tara had to pee right when I was in the middle of telling her something IMPORTANT. I was trailing after her, trying to get in my last point, and she locked herself in the bathroom. I think she was afraid I’d follow her right in. And I was tempted.
Now we’re sitting, recovering from a hot, dusty morning at the zoo. Aaron and Tara and Dick are talking about plans for the rest of our time here. I got heckled for not paying attention to these earth-shattering discussions. But, I said, I’m writing about you! You can’t expect me to talk when I’m writing an ode to you!
Ok, gotta go. We’ve got things to do, places to go. Just let me check my email first really fast.

It is so amazing to connect with a close friend in person. Very good for the soul.

Yes, your very presence uplifts my soul. When I think about it – that’s actually true. Thanks for coming to visit us. We Carpenters are having a wonderful time and hope you are too. I still think you guys should move here. Maybe next fall.
