A few random observations

05.17.07 | art/books, health, Sally, Spot, Susan | Comment

Movie recommendation: Thank You for Smoking. 5 stars. Hilarious, though the ending was a bit anti-climactic; the very last scene was great, though. (disclaimer: we watched it edited, so I don’t know about the regular version).

Dick and I (after a joyful reunion last night) got into a (tiny) argument today. He said, “Oh are you going to go blog about that now?” Not really, honey. When it’s so obvious that I’m in the right, where’s the fun in even discussing it?

Susan has a sinus infection and an ear infection. I feel bad that she is that sick, but at the same time, it was strangely satisfying when the doctor confirmed my diagnosis (I missed the ear one). After she got all drugged up and had a nap, we took the three hooligans to the library. Susan and Sally fought over who got to push Spot in the umbrella stroller. When I told Susan, “shhhh,” she said, “Don’t say ‘shhhhhhh’” in her cute lisp. So I kept sh-sh’ing her to hear her say it.

And may I just say that while I support ignoring kids in tantrum-mode and in letting them “cry-it-out,” this does not mean IN THE MIDDLE OF A PUBLIC LIBRARY, for FIFTEEN MINUTES. It was bad enough that the ever-patient librarian, who hosts Mother Goose storytime for some seriously delinquent toddlers, suggested that it was time for a little break outside. The mother ignored her. Somehow, somehow, I bit my tongue.

We put the kids down at 7ish. Ten minutes later Sally (who had let Susan out of her room) and Susan were jumping on Sally’s bed, and Sally had helped Spot into a sitting position in her crib and thrown toys in for her to play with. Spot was so happy. I almost felt bad breaking up the party. Why is it so cute when they conspire together? Perhaps because they’re bonding over their common enemy?

Susan, who took a four-hour nap and is riding the Motrin high, came out of her room at 10:39 to tell me that she has “freckles on my cheeks, Mommy.” We spend a lot of time at our house discussing how lucky we are to have freckles, and how attractive they are. Susan’s are pretty miniscule, but she does have at least five.

totally unrelated, but fun to read
