Turns out, not very. Well, actually, not at all.
I feel like someone is missing from this picture — oh right, Dick.
Never fear; Dick and I had some very quality sleeping
time before this debacle. Spot came in at 6:30 to nurse. Susan had a nightmare and came in around 6:45 (after Dick’s consoling attempts had only temporary effects). Sally joined the party at 7.
Confession — I didn’t try out the older-child nursing; somehow I just have a feeling about that one.

We are stll co-sleeping / nursing Jessamine. But at this very moment Brad is pulling up with Jessamine’s big girl bed! I hope she takes to it well.
Well, I think I have learned my lesson this morning (for the third time) about co-sleeping. Usually Liam will wake up and grab my face or babble until I wake up if Ryan or I are still sleeping, but not this morning. This morning, he decided to go for a stroll and crawled right off the bed taking the lamp on the end table down with him. This is the first time on my duty that he fell off the bed, the first two times, daddy was to blame. Anyway, I love co-sleeping, but now I am terrified to have him sleep in the bed without us on each side of him to protect him from falling. Pillows have always worked before, but not anymore, he knows how to crawl over them.
Anyway…very cute picture, hopefully Lucy will never learn to crawl over the pillow next to her or she will end up like Liam with a red mark on her face.
Marie,
good luck with Jessamine’s new bed! we had things all planned when Lucy was born. I thought and thought, and talked to my sister who has 3 kids too. we decided to get a double bed for Avery and Callie to share. that didn’t work; they kept each other up. So Callie (2 1/2) went back into the crib in her own room, and Avery sleeps in the double bed with Lucy in the graco pack’n'play at the foot of her bed. whatever works, eh? let me know how it goes with you. How old is Jessamine now? 2?
Danielle,
i’m sorry to hear about Liam’s owwie (boo-boo? what do you guys call it?). i’m sure Tank will be fine though! you know, your wanting to co-sleep because you didn’t get to carry him in your womb for the nine months and wanting that extra closeness made a lot of sense to me. who knows when (if?) Lucy will learn to crawl. she has face-planted a couple of times now that she can “sit” up.
She is 21 months. I nursed her to sleep in her little bed, then tried to go to sleep but couldn’t sleep without her! I was happy when she woke up and wanted Mommy, so I had an excuse to bring her back to bed with me. Max was about 21 months when he moved to his big boy bed, but he had been long crib trained. Jessamine has never slept without me.
when tom is gone on his (very infrequent) business trips, I let Avery sleep with me. I remember sleeping in my mom’s bed sometimes for the same reason (I am the oldest too).
i do make sure my big body pillow is between us, though. that kid kicks! and grinds her teeth. and drools! — which i discovered after taking back a pillow she had commandeered.
