I took Susan and Spot to the beach yesterday morning. It sounded like a fun thing to do; we love the beach, it’s close, May is perfect weather, and three good friends were meeting us there with their kids. Here’s how we look, ready for the beach. In this picture you can’t see the wrestling into three swimsuits and the two layers of spf 60 kid-friendly sunscreen. Notice, however, the umbrella, rug, chair, bag, baby bjorn, hats and scarf (for nursing in an underwire tankini — a bit harder to preserve modesty, let me tell you):
The water was crisp and clean (until Susan threw Wheat Thins in), the air clear and the sand white-sugar soft. Liam liked the sand a bit too much; I forgot to call him by his new nickname, Tank, but I think maybe he will be an explorer someday. Dylan needs his naps (don’t we all), but he was too cute in his matching hat and shorts (why do boys always get the long eyelashes?). Emmeline was mellow, as were Malia and Susan, for the most part. Spot likes seaweed, which hopefully indicates that she will appreciate sushi more than I do.
I wish I’d gotten pictures of the whole group (maybe Tiffany can send me one?); it was hard enough getting these. Cameras, sand and salt water aren’t the greatest combination. I promised Sally we’d go again as soon as school is out. Great, another swimsuit and two more layers of sunscreen. I can’t wait.

What a trooper! That looks like so much work to me, especially today when it’s rainy and gray and I have a headache and want a nap!
Of course I’m jealous of your proximity to the beach!
and i’m jealous of your proximity to my friends. and my family!
Its one day and two baths after our beach trip for Liam. I am still finding sand everywhere; between his toes, in his crib, his carseat, it just keeps coming… Next time I will be more prepared and bring my husband with me so I can sit and chat, and he can chase Liam (the tank) to the water and back over and over. Cute pictures of Lucy….she looked so relaxed.
