I’ve been lurking over at MormonMommyWars (just tonight, and, already, dipping just that toe into the wide, wide sea of the blogging ether has destroyed as many brain cells as three pregnancies combined; I’m seriously rethinking my addiction here), and found this YouTube video on their latest post. It’s pretty silly.
I want to embrace the idea that there are many different ways to be Mormon. Really, though, I was surprised that a) the MM “Wars” seem pretty amicable (this is a good thing; the regular Mommy Wars are bloody, at least in the media), and b) that MM “Wars” would exist at all; what does it mean after all, to be a Mormon Mommy if it doesn’t include a vague-ish commitment to that whole family proclamation-thingy?
Such a commitment would wipe out the War, I would think, because the proclamation teaches a principle (about parenting roles; it has lots of other principles, obviously) and then sets out a few exceptions, including, “other.” If we agree on the principle and then respect each other enough to figure each mom is governing herself accordingly, what is there to fight about?
One thing I do like about this video is that it memorializes Teancum, one of my favorite Book of Mormon heroes. I’d love to name a son (if I ever had one) Teancum, but Dick isn’t convinced.

hey
Josh and I love Teancum too. we are planning to name a son after him….
