A documentary called The Mormons is airing on PBS Monday and Tuesday of this week. It, and the religion it explores, got a favorable review by Neil Genzlinger in the New York Times. Perhaps this positive approach is due in part to the collective realization that: “All religion depends on revelation … All revelation is supernatural.? That’s what Harold Bloom says in the documentary, according to the article.
Genzlinger attributes the appeal of the series (and perhaps of the Mormons) to the fact that “It?s great to hear people who believe in something and can articulate it without sounding crazy or defensive.”
Unfortunately, we won’t be watching this week; our cable went the way of Busch Gardens tickets. Even more unfortunate, and perplexing, is the odd failure on the part of the series’ director to include some fabulous Family Home Evening footage filmed at the Johnson house. So we present the Johnson Family FHE Highlights, 2007.
