well, i should probably have mentioned in the post that the parking ticket only cost 36 dollars, so wasn't that big a deal.

i think you did tell me about adam's ticket and the judge, etc. that's kind of like how when tom got his only ticket ever, it was on our third date and i had just introduced him to the whole fam as my one and only, and we were going down WH drive. for some dumb (trying to please the man? even though he doesn't care about things like that) reason, he was driving my car, and i didn't warn him about the speed traps along there (i prob. would've been going even faster).

the cop who stopped us listened to our whole sappy love story and then told tom, "well, then you should be even more careful, 'cause now you're driving precious cargo." i was so charmed; what woman doesn't want to be referred to as "cargo"?

Did I tell you the story of Adam's parking ticket on BYU campus when we were poor college students? $200 really hurts when you're dirt poor. And I was so mad at him for it! I was big pregnant with Olivia, so I went with him to see the judge, so I could plead with him to bring the price down, round belly as sympathy factor. Instead, the judge was so mean I just bawled through his whole speech as to why Adam didn't deserve to hold the Priesthood if he did things like park where he wasn't supposed to. He lowered the fee to $20 and then turned to me and casually asked, "When's the baby due?"

great story! interesting that you had such angst about the court appearance -- do you have residual issues w authority? Probably we all do -- IE some ingrained tension or negative arousal when running afoul of them. That is what happens to me, and that (ie my attitude) may be partially where you got it. Or I'm guilty of heavy handed-parenting (which is true, but may also be causal).

There is the idea that for a society to work, there has to be 95% voluntary compliance w the law. So that we hope all would respond like you did.

Good for Avery to see.
