Spot Grace Johnson was born at 2:52 on Friday, October 13th, 2006. She weighed (only!!) 7 pounds 5 ½ ounces and was 20 inches long. Unfortunately, she doesn’t have a distinctive birthmark like her sisters Sally and Susan, but she does have Dick’s pointy elf ears and surprisingly light hair (so we could be sure we were taking the right baby home). [Note from December--Spot's very own hemangioma has appeared to mark her as our own--it's just a little dot on her chest]
My delivery with Spot was a dream. I only had to push twice and she was there (after about 3-4 hours of pitocin-induced contractions. She weighed almost 2 pounds less than Sally. I told my mom that if Sally’s birth had been like Spot’s, I wouldn’t have had to wait almost 4 years to have Susan. I actually feel kind of bad for not letting Spot cook longer since she ended up weighing a lot less than we feared, but hey, it all worked out okay.
Apparently I have a small scoliosis in my spine which is why it’s always hard to get the epidural to work on both sides. Both previous times my right side stayed sentient so this time the anesthetist jammed it in different and it was my left side I could still feel the pain on. So always they end up just giving me a huge dose and then I am completely numb for hours afterwards. Don’t ask me how on earth the pioneers ever had more than one child. Holy cow.
Spot isn’t distinctly feminine yet (Dick tried to convince me that from the neck up she could be a boy). We were teasing Sally before the delivery, asking, "What if Spot comes out looking really ugly?" Sally replied, "then she would be a boy."
