Catching Spanish Mackeral

06.12.06 | Family | 1 Comment

For at least the last 15 years, I thought I had no interest in fishing, and then because of a church activity in which an enthusiastic fisherman took a group of us fishing, I have been ?hooked? ever since. Well, that means I went back on my own one time.

Last Saturday Sally, Grandpa, and I went fishing at the Sunshine Skyway?s South Pier. We caught several Spanish Mackeral (see the image below).

This is the first one we caught. Notice all the blood that spatters when it flips around on the pavement. After we caught it, Sally worried about getting fish blood splattered on her dress, so she wasn?t too excited to reel them in. Still, it is exciting to have one on the line.

I think Grandpa had a good time, although he needed heavier sinkers to cast his line farther. He kept catching little bream fish near the bottom.

totally unrelated, but fun to read
